Just A Bit About Us

Scott Jacob ( Drums )

I was born in Long Island, New York in 1966, and moved to New Orleans in 1970. Growing up in New Orleans, East. I met Neal when we were in the 4th grade. We hung out together all that year and by the next school year we were best friends. It’s funny because when we were in 5th grade we said we were going to be in a band together. My older brother Lonnie was a drummer in a band and we had a drum set in the house for as long as I can remember. I started really playing drums when I was about 8 or 9 years old. I would come home from school throw on the headphones, put on any Led Zeppelin or Rush album and start trying to play. I’m a self-taught drummer and trust me, lessons are the way to go. Self taught drummers like me pick up bad habits in playing that are very hard to shake years later, however, I have never had a lesson. When I was about 13 years old my brother’s band broke up. He was going to sell the drums (he could have gotten a lot of money for them) but he knew I wanted to start a band, so he gave them to me. Thanks Lonnie, you changed my life forever the day you did that for me. You know I love them and I will never sell them. As far as the story on my drum kit you can read that on www.vistalitedrums.com scroll down and click on Scott Jacob.

I’ve been in 4 bands in my life all with Neal as the singer, Illusion,Rampage, Defiance, & Group Therapy. It’s funny, but I have never been on stage for a whole night of music without Neal as the singer. I’m self employed with my family doing Air Conditioning, Heating,& Refrigeration, the name of the company is Polar Air Conditioning, my Dad started the company in 1970. I’m married to a wonderful woman named Stephanie for 19 years and we have 3 beautiful children Scotty 17, Ryan 16 and Alissa 9 and we live in Slidell, La.

Well, that’s enough about me. As far as bands go it can be hell to keep them together. One thing I do know about this band is that sometimes people cross paths and it changes their lives forever. I’m sure glad we all crossed paths because it has changed my life for the better. I love these guy’s like brothers and I thank God for giving me friends like Neal, Tommy, and Joey. You Guy’s Rock and it’s a thrill for me to jam with you every time we get on stage. Thanks Guy’s.

Joey Timmons (Guitar)

Joey was born in New Orleans, La in the early 70's. Growing up, he fell in love with music, thanks to his Dad, who has always played in bands and is a guitarist/singer to this day. Naturally, the urge to learn to play guitar rubbed off on him. So as soon as his hands were big enough to wrap around a guitar, his Dad gave him his very 1st, at the wee age of 8 yrs old. His Dad taught him to play the basic chords and low and behold  Joey took off from there. By the time Joey was in his teen years,  he started hearing guitar players like Edward Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Kirk Hammet from Metallica and amongst many other Shred Masters and influential guitarist of the day. Joey's Dad could not teach him this kind of music, so he took it upon himself to broaden his own horizons as a guitarist. Joey would buy instructional books and  take any advice he could get to learn to "Shred" like these masters of the day. Being as passionate as he was, he would come home from school every day, sit in his room and play his guitar for hours on end, not to be "interrupted" by his parents screaming at him to "TURN THAT SH*T DOWN". By the time Joey was 17, he was well on his way to be an influential guitarist/musician himself. At the age of 18, he joined his 1st band and since then has been in many bands through the years. Some bands he was in showed great promise, but none of which seemed to work out as in the case with many bands. In 2002, Joey found a home with Group Therapy.  "Its almost as if I met up with my long lost brothers", Joey mentions." We certainly have good vibes as a band and create wonderful magic when the four of us get together, and I couldn't be happier. When a band can make an entire bar full of friends and fans have a slam-up great time, and keep them coming back, that's what it's all about for us".

Joey enjoys a few hobbies when not creating music or working for a living. He is an avid boater and enjoys spending time on his boats on the local rivers and lakes here in the south. "Boating is a big part of my life", he says. "There is nothing like being on the river amongst my closest friends, enjoying the weekend for a little fun in the sun". He's also been an R/C hobbiest for years now. He enjoys flying radio controlled airplanes for a little relaxation and last but not least, he enjoys fishing  which, as we all know,  some of the best fishing in the world is here in the south.

And to sum it all up Joey would like to thank every one for checking out the Group Therapy web site, and for all the great comments that was left in the guest book, and for believing in the band.
